The Kardashians seem to have their hand in everything lately. Working with Bebe, Quick Trim and Idol White are just a few of their endorsements. Now the Kardashians have decided to launch a skin care line.
Celebrity website Hollyscoop, recently ran into Kris Jenner at the "Stand Up for Kids" Gala Dinner and Auction and got into a discussion about beauty and skin care. Kris then revealed that she and her daughters were planning to launch their own skin care line next year.
Believe it or not, this makes sense. The Kardashian women are incredibly hot right now and with tabloid papers at their beck and call they have proven the can sell both magazines and products. We even reported recently that Kim Kardashian will be launching her own fragrance in 2010.
As always, CanadaBeauty will keep you posted on the Kardashian skin care line as more info becomes available.

There has been a lot of talk this year about Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet and its now on its way to Canada. Dr. Siegal (also known as the Cookie Doctor) created his famous hunger-controlling meal replacement cookies more than 30 years ago. His cookies claim to satisfy hunger without drugs and help you stick to a reduced-calorie diet.
In the past year, CanadaBeauty has seen him on a variety of television shows discussing his diet. What also caused a lot of buzz for Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet were young celebrity endorsers Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson.
In world obsessed with quick fixes, it's no surprise that the Cookie Diet is successful, but is it safe? Critics say that it will work, but only because it promotes a diet of approx 1,000 calories per day. Most diets recommend a calorie intake of at least a 1,200 per day and anything under is considered by many dieticians to be unsafe. Keri Gans, a registered NYC dietician told the New York Times, "the bottom line is that you can't meet your nutritional needs in six cookies and one meal a day. It's not possible."
Even though it has its critics, the Cookie Diet is only growing in popularity. If you're interested, check out the Dr. Siegal website for more info. A week's supply of cookies will cost about $59.00.

We know that many of you have seen the Bumpits infomercials. Bumpits are self-gripping voluminizing hair inserts that give instant volume to hair. The infomercials are beyond tacky, but the product is popular with teens and women in their 20's.
According to Elle Magazine, Bumpits are also the secret to queen bee Blair Waldorf's sleek and full hairstyles on Gossip Girl.
Leighton Meester who plays Blair Waldorf, has lovely, voluminous hair that many young women envy, but apparently its not all au natural. Bumpits are used to give Blair volume at the root of the hair.
It's nice to know that even Blair Waldorf needs the help of a product like Bumpits!

On her preference for unconventional beauty in models:
"I was never your average pretty girl. I'm not blonde. And I guess one always goes for people of your own type. I like models with personality, that are as different as can be. Like Penelope Tree ...[or] Kristen McMenamy [or] Stella Tennant."

This season it's been all about mascara. Every major beauty company has released new and enhanced mascaras that promise to be the best on the market. Now another mascara has hit store shelves, but it's a little different from the rest.
LashControl is a squeezable mascara that allows you to continuously regulate the desired amount of mascara product on the brush before it leaves the tube. Simply squeeze the center portion of the tube while you remove the brush. No Glop or excess formula. The brush also acts as a lash separator and ensures even distribution on the lashes.
In addition to the innovative packaging which allows for more control, we also like that LashControl is gentle on the lashes with ingredients that include chamomile flower extract, ginko biloba extract and ginseng root. Keep an eye out for LashControl in stores near you this winter.

Fall is the perfect time to start drinking tea again. One of our favourites is Whole Rose Bud Tea. It's a lovely floral tea made using rosebuds from the rose bush.
It may seem a little odd for some of you to use whole buds, but the tea is actually very light and pleasant tasting. What's special about rose bud tea is the fact that it improves circulation and protects against the signs of aging. Many believe it can ease and relieve both mentally and physically as well as help with anti-aging.
According to Marie Claire UK, "daily environmental stresses, from sunlight to daily pollutants, create a reaction that breaks down skin proteins. When these break down you get lines! Extracts from the rose buds are proven to counteract this reaction, helping to retain elasticity and a younger-looking visage."
Will it work for you? If you're a tea drinker, it's worth a try!

Expect big things from this edgy, young woman. Ads will begin running next year.
Johnny Depp's girlfriend Vanessa Paradis is the new face of Chanel Beauty. She's an interesting choice, not like the conventional beauties of the past, but a unique look nonetheless.
People Magazine reports that country singer and Dancing with the Stars pro Julianne Hough has dyed her much copied long platinum hair a light brown. She would look great in any hair colour, but we think she should definitely stick with the blonde!

2 Love My is a new British beauty brand getting a lot of buzz right now. The 2 Love My beauty product getting all the attention is 2 Love My Lips.
A line of unusual lip glosses which combine shiny, gorgeous lip colour with lip plumping action, breath freshener AND a card that detects the date rape drup in beverages! Yes, you read correctly. 2 Love My Lips lip gloss actually includes a card in its packaging that allows women to test their drinks for drugs. The hope is that by combining a classic beauty product with a female protection device, 2 Love My Lips can bring both beauty and safety to women in all types of social situations.
CanadaBeauty writers were both surprised and intrigued by this new concept. Although it might seem odd (and a tad bit over the top), it could be an asset to young women, especially those that frequent bars and nightclubs. Keep it in your purse and give yourself some peace of mind. For about $20.00 per gloss, it might be worth it.

In today's beauty news, Christian Dior is getting ready to add a new mascara to the wildly popular Diorshow line and a new rejuvenation serum to its Capture Totale skin care collection. The decision to launch a new high-performance mascara and skin care serum is not unsual, these products are of huge interest to consumers and are among the most popular beauty products going into 2010.
Diorshow Extase will be the first "flash plumping" mascara and Capture Totale One Essential will be the latest in rejuvenating serums.
Speaking to WWD, executives at Dior said "Extase was designed to give lashes long-lasting volume from the first coat." "Extase's brush is like a little succession of tiers to create reservoir effects and to boost the formula's plumping effect," explained Jérôme Leloup, international marketing director for makeup at Dior. Extase mascara will be launched at Sephora this December and will retail for $28. It will worldwide in mid-January.
Dior told WWD that its new Capture Totale One Essential Serum rejuvenates skin by eliminating toxins stemming from internal and external factors. The serum contains Perle de Longoza, comprised of 21 active ingredients, including extracts of Longoza and Laminaria algae, plus Detoxynile. Together, these help to reactivate the elimination of cell toxins and, as a result, skin becomes smoother and denser and its complexion, healthier, Dior studies show. Capture Totale One Essential Serum is for women of all ages and skin types and will be available worldwide on February 1, 2010.

Need to shake up your exercise routine? Believe it or not, women's roller derby is back in a big way. Leagues are popping up across Canada and the USA and popularity is sure to grow even bigger thanks to indie film "Whip It" starring Ellen Paige and directed by Drew Barrymore.
Apparently roller derby is a great workout. So far, there are over 78 leagues in North America and the number is growing. Women need to be 21 to join and like any sport, attend weekly practices and play opposing teams regularly. Today's roller derby women race on flat tracks (unlike the 1970's sloped tracks) and are not professional. It's a tough, physically challenging contact sport, but for many women, it's a great bonding exercise and one where the workout is intense. It's also said to be a great stress reliever and for anyone who's ever seen a game, it's a highly aggressive sport.
Could you do roller derby? It's not for the faint of heart, that's for sure!

In the world of beauty, we've been hearing quite a bit of buzz about Chantal Biya. Ms. Biya is giving Michele Obama a run for her money as the most stylish and over the top First Lady! We at CanadaBeauty think she's absolutely fabulous!
As First Lady of Cameroon (and only 39 years old), Chantal Biya was nicknamed the "Lady Gaga of First Ladies" by New York Magazine. She's very tall and frequently wears platform heels to be even taller and never leaves the house without her HUGE mane of hair and full face of makeup. I think we can all agree that her bold look makes Michelle Obama look like a schoolgirl! Take a look at pics of Chantal Biya here.
The Huffington Post has now jumped on board the Chantal Biya fan club and reports:
In the past, she's mentioned Dior and Chanel as a few of her favorite European labels, while the traditional African outfits she dons are custom-made, designed, and sewn by tailors ... In Cameroon her wardrobe has made her so popular she routinely launches trends and has a hairstyle, the Chantal Biya, named after hair.
Columnists and bloggers are starting to jump on the bandwagon too, some loving Chantal Biya, some indifferent to her and others not appreciating her opulent (and some might say tacky) sense of self. You must admit though, that she has personality and that goes a long way in politics and life! Expect to hear more about her throughout 2009 and 2010.

Last month, Tyra Banks had a well-publicized debut show on black hair. In the episode she went au natural and ditched her weave to show off her natural hair.
Now it's Oprah's turn to talk hair. Yesterday's Oprah featured Solange Knowles and Chris Rock talking about hair. Specifically they discussed the very popular use of weaves and hair pieces.
Solange revealed that prior to going au natural with her hair; she had spent between $40,000 - $50,000 per year on weaves. She told Oprah that she was tired of only feeling pretty when she was wearing one.
Chris Rock was on the show to discuss his new film titled "Good Hair". In the film, Chris visits with hair salons, laboratories and a variety of experts to discuss the culture of hair and the impact it has on various aspects of everyday life in the black community.
Needless to say this is a hot topic right now. As more and more people become interested in the hair industry and the culture behind our society's obsession with hair, we're sure we'll see more on this topic.
