The Body Shop Releases Love Etc...


A classic brand, known for their exotic perfume oils and fragrances, The Body Shop has just released their newest fragrance titled Love Etc.

Love Etc is described as a floral blend of Egyptian jasmine with warm, radiant notes of vanilla and sandalwood.  Top notes include pear, neroli and bergamot with base notes of vanilaa, sandalwood and musk cream.  What we love about this fragrance is that it's the first Eau de Parfum to feature an alcohol perfume base created from an ingredient that is fairly traded and organic.  Love Etc retails for a very affordable $24.00 - $29.50.

L'Oreal Models Use Hair Extensions


ccole.JPGIn today's beauty news, L'Oréal Hair Care is coming under fire because the L'Oreal commercials with Cheryl Cole feature Cheryl wearing hair extensions.

Cheryl Cole is a member of the incredibly popular girl group Girls Aloud and is a fan of hair extensions.  While its fine to use them for day-to-day personal use, critics say to allow them to be used in L'Oreal hair ad campaigns is unethical and misleading.  That bouncy gorgeous hair isn't all because of the use of L'Oreal.  Young women in particular shouldn't be deceived into thinking it is. 

We at CanadaBeauty understand the use of extensions and other beauty products during the promotional process, but encourage companies to be open about it.

We've addressed the issue of beauty pillows before.  As women look for new ways to ward off the dreaded lines and wrinkles, products like beauty pillows become more and more popular.

Diddy Joins The Home Shopping Network


Does it seem a little odd to think of hip hop star Sean "Diddy" Combs hawking fragrance on The Home Shopping Network?  Well, he's doing it and we expect to see big sales come out of his appearance on the ever-popular network.

Diddy will make his debut on HSN on Monday and he'll be promoting both of his fragrances; I am King and Unforgivable.  He's even getting his very own studio from which to discuss the products.  Fragrance can sometimes be a tricky thing to sell on tv, people can only see the scent, they can't actually smell it. 

If you want to check Diddy out on HSN, he'll be on air from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Nov. 30.



Scarlett Johansson Sizzles for Dolce & Gabbana


rosetheoned&g.JPGThe commercials for "Dolce & Gabbana Rose The One" have been all over the television lately.  The holiday rush has begun and everyone is out to promote their latest beauty products and Dolce & Gabbana is no exception.

The "Rose The One" fragrance is soft, fresh and sweet.  Scarlett Johansson is the star of the ad campaign and evokes an image of seductive, innocent glamour in the new ads.  CanadaBeauty had the opportunity to test out the fragrance and we must say, we were impressed.  The scent is different than the original "The One" and in our opinion, more feminine.  "Rose The One" features notes of lilly of the valley, pink grapefruit, mandarin, Bulgarian rose, peony, sandalwood, vanilla, musk and amber.

Kate Moss:
It sounds really corny, but I think that if you're beautiful inside, it shows on the outside for sure. You can be a pretty face, but if you're not a nice person, it just doesn't work. I'm not traditionally a beauty, but apparently people think I'm all right. If you're a nice person, it definitely helps.

WWD: What inspires you?
KM:
Films and books, lots of different things. And music.

WWD: How do you channel your creativity?
KM:
I write sometimes, or I'll draw. It all depends what's around. If I'm with my daughter, I'll paint. I make jam. It's kind of creative when you make jam. In the country, I get creative withwhat I have in my house. I just did my dressing room [with my former personal assistant who now designs interiors] and that was quite a good creative process. It's heaven. We did it together. I wanted it to be a space, not just a closet. I wanted it to be a room you could feel comfortable in and hang out in without just being a wardrobe.

WWD: Do you have a motto?
KM:
There are loads. There's "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." That's one of them. You try and remember, but it never works.

The girls who are models now, that's just their body.  Did fashion celebrate thinness more? That's a different question.  You can't fault the models for that - they were just thin girls. Kate Moss, she eats. I've seen her eat, and she's just thin.  Fashion is all about extremes, and it's constantly in flux. It's just fashion.

Fashion gets blamed for encouraging eating disorders.
That's a little bit of a stretch.  I don't know that much about eating disorders, but I'm certainly not one of the people they've blamed, because I'm not super-skinny.  I think people want to find something to blame.  An eating disorder is way more than a girl looking at a magazine and seeing a picture of a skinny model.  Maybe that's one tiny piece of the puzzle, but I think it's a lot more about self-esteem and self-love and control, so it's too simplistic to just blame it on models who are skinny.

The Newest Must-Have Hairstyle?


blakelively.jpgIn today's beauty news, according to the New York Times, Gossip Girl star Blake Lively has the most sought after hairstyle.  Remember the frenzy over Jennifer Aniston's hair in the mid-1990's?  Well, Blake's hair is the new "Rachel".

Blake Lively's hair however, is quite different from the layered perfection of "The Rachel".  Blake's hair is long, layered and tousled (sometimes, I question whether she actually brushes it).

According to the Times, "It's aspirational hair," said John Barrett, whose salon sits atop Bergdorf Goodman in Midtown Manhattan.  Clients, Mr. Barrett said, "don't just want the hair, they want the life."

The stylist on "Gossip Girl" Jennifer Johnson told the New York Times she creates the look by letting Blake's hair dry in a simple chignon.  Ms. Lively, who said she doesn't have extensions, says she has her blond hair touched up by her colorist, Rona O'Connor, every six months.  We think its a sexy look for women of all ages!

JILLIAN MICHAELS GETS HER OWN HEALTHY LIVING SHOW


The Biggest Loser's most popular trainer Jillian Michaels is getting her own NBC show called Losing It With Jillian. The new show will be a reality series where Jillian Michaels moves in with families and attempt to get them living healthier lifestyles.  Losing It with Jillian will also feature celebrity chef Curtis Stone who will help the families with their diets, meal plans and proper nutrition.

With the obesity rate steadily growing, its always encouraging to see these types of shows where viewers can actually learn things they can then incorporate into their daily lives.  Many of The Biggest Loser viewers say the show teaches them tricks, tips and provides motivation.  We're sure Losing It with Jillian will provide the same positive life lesions.  Expect to see the show on NBC next year.

THE NEWEST FACE OF BEAUTY


madonna.JPGBelieve it or not, gap teeth are the latest and hottest beauty trend.  Recently both Chanel and Rimmel Cosmetics hired gap-toothed models as the faces of their brands.  Georgia May Jagger (daughter of Mick Jagger) and Vanessa Paradis (Johnny Depp's fiancĂ©e) are both gap-toothed beauties.  Vanessa has long been a model/singer and Georgia May Jagger has only recently begun making big waves in the world of fashion (and replacing Kate Moss as the face of Rimmel was a huge boost to her fast-growing profile).

Actress Anna Paquin (star of True Blood) and new "it" girl Lara Stone (new face of Lois Vuitton) are also gap-toothed beauties on the fast track to superstardom (and let's not leave out music icon Madonna).

We think part of what makes these ladies so appealing is their lack of "perfection".  In recent years, perfect, straight hair and white, even teeth were considered a must in acting and modeling.  Now, the tide has shifted with messy, sexy bed-head and women with the "not-so-perfect" smile appearing everywhere.  This casual, sexy attitude is not new; it was perfected by Brigitte Bardot, who epitomized the sexy, gap-toothed vixen in the 1950's and 1960's. 

Will the trend last?  Will women be inspired to leave their teeth as is and skip the zoom whitening?  Only time will tell, but we must say we hope the trend sticks around for awhile!

On Wednesday, November 11th, the Cosmo Kisses for the Troops Van will visit various spots in New York City with uniformed personnel; consumers will be able to kiss a post card, which will ultimately be delivered to servicemen overseas.  Cosmopolitan and Maybelline will donate one dollar for each kiss collected to the USO.

CELEBRITY BEAUTY NEWS RUNDOWN


panderson.jpgDemi Moore most recent business venture is in the form of the fragrance "Wanted" by Helena Rubinstein.  Demi is both the face and inspiration for the new fragrance and recently launched the scent in NYC.  During an interview with WWD, Demi Moore also confirmed that she is in serious talks to create her own beauty line with Helena Rubinstein.  More details will likely be available early next year.   

Pamela Anderson has officially launched her new line of fragrances titled "Malibu Blue" and "Malibu Pink".  The fragrances can now be found at drugstores nationwide and are perfect for the budget-conscious.  The fragrances are natural, light and cruelty-free.  Prices range from $39 - $49.   

A new fragrance titled "Pretty Woman" has hit store shelves just in time for the lucrative holiday season.  The fragrance is being launched by Barbara Orbison, widow of legendary singer Roy Orbison.  Pretty Woman contains notes of bergamot, stargazer lily, amber and patchouli.  Barbara Orbison is also planning to launch a Pretty Woman beauty line with perfume oil, candles and possibly body lotion and shampoo.  Barbara recently told WWD, "Everything I add to the line has to have something special about it," she says.  "The name Pretty Woman is important to me, not just because of the song or the movie, but because I feel every woman is pretty, every woman is beautiful, and it doesn't make a difference where they live or how old they are."



DISNEY BEAUTY


Know any young girls who love Disney?  The highly-anticipated new Disney film, The Princess and the Frog is the story of a prince who is transformed into a frog who then seeks the help of a young girl.  

The young girl in the film is named Tiana (you will no doubt see her face on everything from lunch boxes to t-shirts) and she has her own beauty line on the way.  Famed beauty brand Carol's Daughter will launch a bath and body line inspired by the film which will feature shampoo, conditioner, hair detangler and bubble bath.

LADY GAGA PARTNERS UP WITH THE MAC AIDS FUND


In today's beauty news, everyone's favourite pop star Lady Gaga has been announced as the newest face of The MAC AIDS Fund.  The MAC AIDS Fund supports men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally.  

Lady Gaga will be joined by Cyndi Lauper as the new faces and join previous stars Fergie and Pamela Anderson in support of the campaign.

The MAC AIDS Fund will release two lipsticks named for the slightly eccentric duo, Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi.  All proceeds earned from the sales of the lipstick go directly to the Fund.  Lady Gaga has also given the rights to the songs from her upcoming Fame Monster album to support the campaign.  Way to go ladies!  We're confident that the campaign will be another great success!  Keep your eye out for it in MAC stores March 2010.
