MADONNA USES FANS WITH FUNKY FASHIONS IN HER NEW VIDEO

madonna in concert.jpg

Always just one step ahead of the brat pack, Madonna once again is doing something that will be copied by other entertainers for sure. She is incorporating her fans, their style who in turn channel her style ( the more things change the more they stay the same) in a new video for the song "Celebration"on her greatest hits CD, due to come out in the fall.

30 lucky fans sent in email pictures of themselves where Madonna's stylists chose the participants.

"The getups were of the funky and offbeat variety, mostly channeling Eighties Madonna, à la "Like a Virgin," and more recent hits such as "She's Not Me" and "Hung Up." Printed Madonna T-shirts were the leading choice, worn with everything from jeans to red HotPants to lace leggings".

Once the video is finished, the fans dancing will be intercut with scenes of Madonna dancing. This sounds like a lot of fun, can't wait to see it!

JENNIFER LOPEZ : CELEBRITY STYLE - GET THE LOOK

Jennifer Lopez just turned 40 and is working to revive her once-hot film career. On the set of her new film "The Backup Plan," she models a look that bloggers and fashion-watchers can't stop talking about all over the internet.

Is it outdated? Is it covet-worthy?  Let us know in the comments.

We thought she looked great, she lost her baby weight, her hairstyle is youthful and suits her face, her skin is glowing..all good things in our books. Her outfit on the other hand we felt could use a bit of tweaking.

So, in our get the look we showed a higher black boot which is more flattering on the leg. We also showed a longer cardigan with assymetrical bottom which is more stylish for the fall and more versatile as a jacket. To get more wear out of the outfit and to update the look for fall/winter season, we would also pair the short dress with black leggings , wear the belt with the dress and leave the cardigan open on top.

Here's how to get the look.

gisele-london-fog.jpg
Gisele Bündchen, arguably the world's most gorgeous pregnant woman, is making headlines with her new campaign for London Fog. This is the first campaign for the supermodel since announcing her pregnancy, and the shots are hardly hiding her much-buzzed-out baby bump.

From the press release:

Bündchen poses seductively in only a London Fog coat appearing noticeably pregnant. This is the first campaign the supermodel has appeared in since news of her pregnancy broke. The campaign was created by the Iconix in-house marketing team and shot by fashion photographer, Nino Munoz at Smashbox Studios in West Hollywood in mid July.

Check out the behind the scenes shots. If only pregnancy looked this glamorous for everyone.

COCOON SHAPES, A NEAT SILHOUETTE AND PRECISE LINES: JUST
WHAT WE NEED NOT ONLY TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM THE RIGORS
OF THE CLIMATE BUT ALSO TO CHALLENGE THOSE OF

CHRISTIAN LACROIX

As we have reported previously the French fashion design house was facing imminent bankruptsy. It now appears to be saved from that fate by two serious proposals from financial backers.

WWD reports that Italy's Borletti group which owns numerous retail outlets was one and the other serious bid came from Bernard Krief consultants.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the bids are accepted, as otherwise the company would be liquidated , it's employees reduced to 12 from 124 and it's 22 year reign as one of France's iconic fashion houses would effectively be reduced to a licencing operation.

EVAN BIDDELL: CANADIAN FASHION DESIGNER PROFILE

evan interview.jpgEvan Biddell. To some, his name is synonymous with Project Runway Canada, the show that launched his career. The youngest contestant in the show's inaugural season, Biddell's bold personality and impeccable design made him the clear choice as winner, and as an emerging powerhouse in the Canadian fashion world. To others, he's a standalone talent with a refreshing design perspective.

A self-taught designer, Biddell began making clothes at the age of 15. From skater gear to wedding gowns to costumes for film and television, his versatility paid off. His self-described "street couture" style was featured in boutiques across Western Canada before catapulting to fashion fame on reality television.

"I believe that a designer should be fantasizing every minute he is working with fabric. If you're going to design something today, it's got to be pure fantasy, to the point where someone can walk down the street living your fantasy." (Slice.ca)

From making custom hoodies for his friends in Victoria to sending a jersey hoodie mini-dress down the runway at Fashion Week, this eco-conscious designer has only just begun.

Inspired by robots and clones for his Fall 2009 line, Biddell handed out earplugs at Toronto Fashion Week last spring. A literally loud show was filled with geometric shapes befitting super-heroines, large-gauge knit scarves, and pops of chartreuse, teal and purple. Even with edgy styling, every piece was accessible to the everyday gal in need of upping her fashion game just a little.

This is one young designer worth paying close attention to. Check out Biddell's official site for more on the career of one of Canada's brightest young talents.

ISAAC MIZRAHI- FASHION DESIGNER AND 'ENERGIZER BUNNY'

ISAAC MIZRAHI-2.JPGIsaac Mizrahi is a one part fashion designer ,one part uber- marketer, one part visionary!  We hope Canadian fashion designers are paying attention here because this guy is the Energizer Bunny of Fashion and he always comes out on top!

The designer has just reached a deal with the QVC live shopping channel in the U.S. to create a new lifestyle collection called  " Isaac Mizrahi Live". The show which will kick off in December will be featuring 8 hours of the designer live per month and will be part cooking show, part reality show, part sales pitch, part fashion. Most of all, it surely will be another hit!

Mizrahi has had quite the colorful career, first breaking into the fashion scene in 1987, at the tender age of 25. His clothes were a hit and soon he sold his stake in 1992 to Chanel. Nevertheless, as things go in the industry he ran into trouble with the label and dissapeared from the International fashion scene in 1998 to expend his energy and vision in other areas.

In one of the first Designer collaborations with Target ( shoking for the time) in 2002, he partnered with the the retailer to make affordable clothes and expanded to bedding, home products and other lines. This collaboration was a HUGE success and paved the way for many other designer collaborations.

Of course NOW Mizrahi is everywhere: hosting the reality show on Bravo called "Fashion Show", designing and rejuvenating the Liz Clairborne label, commenting in numerous style magazines, hosting a radio show and so on and on. The man does not stop and thus has earned our "Energizer Bunny of Fashion" label. We love his energy!

As we said above,we think the guy is onto something! We would love to see the Canadian version of QVC, our own Shopping Channel feature Canadian fashion designers in a fun and innovative way!

Oh and did we mention that Mizrahi has also returned to high fashion with re-launching his label at New York Fashion week two seasons ago AND is opening his new boutique on Madison in NYC in August? See what we mean...

FASHION NEWS: ARMANI DESIGNS FOR THE 'UGLY TRUTH' MOVIE

'The Ugly Truth' which stars Katherine Heigl and Gerald Butler is in it's opening weekend, and whilst the critics have not been too kind, the public might just be in the mood for something light and romantic. We are of course excited to see it for the clothes. Georgio Armani designed several of Katherine Heigl's outfits in the movie including the super sexy 'little black dress' she wears for the key scene.

In fact the designer is so sure that the dress will become a HIT with or without the movie that the Armani 5th avenue, New York Store and the Emporio Armani in L.A. will start selling it next week. Take a look at the movie trailer ( the LBD is visible half way through). We also really like the white dress she wears in the restaurant scene in the soon to be famous "Sally Met Harry" moment! Yes, you know what we are talking about...

FASHION NEWS: BAR REFAELI REPLACES GISELE BUNDCHEN

The oh so gorgeous Bar replaces the oh so stunning Gisele in the new campaign for Rampage. Could it have something to do with Gisele reportedly expecting a baby with husband Tom Brady? Or is Bar just the Hotter, Newer face catching up quickly to the more established supermodel. Bar really does seem to be following in Gisele's footsteps with SI, Victoria Secret modelling and even dating Leonardo Dicaprio, (who is now single).

Bar Refaeli Rampage Fall 2009

Pretty easy to see from the photo above that Bar Refaeli is on the rise, we last saw her on the coveted cover of Sports Illustrated.

COMRAGS: CANADIAN FASHION DESIGNER PROFILE

joyce and judy.JPGCanada's own Comrags is designed by long-time friends Joyce Gunhouse and Judy Cornish. Now celebrating its 25th year, Comrags only continues to excite the Canadian fashion community.

Joyce was raised in Victoria, B.C. Her love of design started early, with her winning a design competition at the age of 6. She eventually moved to Toronto to study fashion illustration. Judy was raised in Burlington, ON, and apprenticed under designer Lida Baday at Kira Fashions while attending university.

Joyce and Judy met in Ryerson's Fashion Arts Program. Even before graduating, they collaborated on projects, which culminated with a mini fashion show at a punk club where Judy worked. The owners of independent store Metropolis liked what they saw and offered the women the opportunity to sell their designs on consignment. The store shared studio space with the budding designers, who quickly saw their efforts pay off.

In 1983, the dynamic duo presented Comrags to the press. The rest, they say, is history, as the fashion world immediately embraced their strong aesthetic. In 1991, the pair won the Designer of the Year award from the City of Toronto. And in 1997, they opened their flagship store on Queen Street West in Toronto.

At Toronto Fashion Week this past spring, Joyce and Judy spoke with the National Post about their decision to no longer pursue wholesale exporting, and keep their applauded efforts, instead, close to home.

Cornish: We felt really beaten down, so when we had the opportunity to make a choice about our business, we thought we don't want to sell as much and we knew you could be as profitable, selling far less if you run your business well. And we wanted to get back to what we like doing which was pattern making and ignoring people's opinions about our stuff.

Comrags proceeded to unveil its Fall 2009 line to rave reviews.

According to th Comrags official site:

Fall 2009 is "our lovely mess". True to Comrags' aesthetic we've mixed masculine and feminine*, pretty and grunge, diamonds and woolly scarves* for a season that highlights the beauty in chaos.

1 Cass Coat in Geometric Mummy dress in Plaid Crush.JPG 14 Stable Jacket Print Boater T Vincent Skirt2.JPG

16 Mister Pant Gretchen Top.JPG 39 Lady Dress Long Sleeved Elm Dress.JPG

Their Fall 2009 showing at Toronto Fashion Week offered the appeal of the English countryside. Twill, printed knits and wool plaids in warm autumn shades and flattering effortless shapes made their way down the runway, carefully balancing elegance and edginess. Their signature "crush" wowed audiences, while the smock dress pointed to their easy-to-wear impeccable style.

Here's to 25 more years, Joyce and Judy!

SHOPPING REVIEW: eDESIGNERSHOP.COM @ THE BRANDS CLUB

Anytime we see huge DESIGNER HANDBAG discounts online, two things happen: we get very excited and very nervous at the same time. Excited because being the comitted designer bargain hunters as we are, who can possibly resist Prada, Fendi and Balenciaga at huge savings? We get nervous because we think is the product authentic ?

So it was with both feelings in tow that we checked out a new addition to The Brands Club online shopping mall in shoes and handbags, called eDesignershop.com which sells Prada, Fendi, Balenciaga, Tod's and Marc Jacobs handbags and accessories at discounts of up to 80% off the retail price. We know that stores at the mall are all carefully screened, but we like to be supersafe and checkout the store as well.

Thus we went to eDesignershop.com FAQ page where found these statements:

Are the designer brands you carry authentic?
Absolutely. We sell only brand new, authentic, and genuine products. Depending on the brand, the products come with different proof of authenticity. Please refer to our authenticity page for more details.

Are purchased covered with any warranty?
Since designer manufacturers will only warranty an item if you purchased it in their stores for full MSRP, eDesignerShop offers our own one year warranty on all items purchased with us. More information, see our warranty page.

We were pretty satisfied at this point that we were buying the REAL deal and went on to explore the store. The first thing we noticed is that the site is having a store wide sale and 12% off on all purchases, add that to the cashback of additional 3% that we would get by shopping through The Brands Club mall and we figured that's basically like saving the tax and getting free shipping!

Designer handbags on sale, additional discounts and cashback worth 15%? Wow this was like a dream come true for recession weary fashionista's!

The main attraction though was the product, and we found absolutely SPECTACULAR buys on Prada, Fendi and Tod's. These were some of our picks:

Thumbnail image for pradabag2.jpgThumbnail image for fendileatherzuccabrown.jpg

PRADA handbag was $1,360.00 NOW $469.00 + 15% combined discount*                       (this is a very good buy)

FENDI spy bag Was $1460.00 Now $529.00 + 15% combined discount*

Thumbnail image for bgiantbriefgoldblackcherry2.jpgThumbnail image for todladydBrown.jpg

BALENCIAGA  was $1865.00 NOW $969.00 + 15% combined discount*
(this one is pricier than the other's but in our opinion is a stunning bag and the color is very fresh for fall)

Tod's Lady D handbag in chocolate brown, was $1459.00 NOW $459.00 + 15% combined* discount (this is very good buy).

In the $100.00 to $300.00 price categories there were hundreds of designer items as well, ranging from cute Fendi clutches to colorful Prada backpacks to gorgeous wallets. The site was very easy to navigate and if you clicked on the designer name and then selected maximum amount of images to be shown on the page, you saw all the products offered by that designer at once. Which made shopping and selection very fast and easy. Also worth coming back every few weeks to check out the New Arrival categories.

Overall the site gets a A from us in terms of Designer handbag bargains and ease of use.

CANADA STYLE SHOPPING NEWS: CLUB MONACO TO REVAMP MENS WEAR

According to WWD, Canada's very own Club Monaco is about to get some pretty snazzy mens wear for fall.

"Under the direction of Timothy Farah, the new vice president of men's design, the Polo Ralph Lauren-owned retailer is widening its fit options and creating a collection that encompasses tailored clothing, sportswear, furnishings, outerwear and accessories. It also is bringing in third-party vendors for the first time, adding Levi's 501 jeans for men and women."

The 120 strong fashion retailer will offer fashionable and tailored suits and more:

"The suits are the important building blocks to the collection," Farah said. But they're designed to work with the other elements of the line, which include oxford shirts, cashmere sweaters, quilted vests, puffer jackets and chinos.
"I think of it like a true collection, not categories of items," he said. "Guys can dress head-to-toe in a suit or they can break it down."
Farah said by offering options, Club Monaco encourages customers to select the best pieces to create their own individual look."

Club Monaco was started by the "godfather" of Canadian fashion, Joe Mimran in 1985 in collaboration with Alfred Sung . Their first store opened on Queen St.W. in Toronto, Canada and still exists today. They opened their first U.S. store in Santa Monica in 1989 and in 1999 were bought out by Polo Ralph Lauren.

That's what we call a Great Canadian Fashion Success story!

Joe Mimran is now developing the Joe Fresh line into a major brand! We wonder what he thinks of his one time baby Club Monaco's expansion? If we are lucky maybe he will let us know!

CELEBRITY STYLE - GET THE LOOK: KATE HUDSON

The recent Paris haute couture shows have left us drooling. Most of us only dream of the day we receive an invitation for a black-tie gala. Or even better, a white-tie event. We take advantage of weddings, proms and opening nights to channel our inner glamour goddesses. What better summer high-fashion icon than Kate Hudson? If you're looking for something high-end, but with a dash of beach-girl effortlessness, look no further than Kate's golden look from this spring's Costume Institute Gala at the MET.

Here's how to get her look:

THE ELEGANT: ARMANI PRIVE, ELIE SAAB, CHRISTIAN LACROIX-PARIS COUTURE FASHION SHOW VIDEOS

Giorgio Armani Privé

We're already chatted about this show and its famous front-row ladies. Cate Blanchett called the collection "understated and elegant." The mostly black and white collection featured very lady like, fitted suits and gowns with emphasis on sequins. As you will see in the video, many outfits look like they could be worn right off the runway and of course the couture buyer does exactly that.

Elie Saab

His all white collection was both elegant and somewhat whimsical  Lots of  embelishment on the garments with toule and sequins .The show stopper was definitely the Snow Pincess wedding dress!

Christian Lacroix

Whispers echoed around Paris that this was his last show. If so, this black-and-navy,  collection was a testament to Lacroix's genius. Whether or not the fashion house can withstand its current financial/partnership crisis is yet to be seen. The emotional standing ovation at the finale, as Christian followed his jaw-dropping eau de nil satin Russian bride gown with a gilded headdress( kokoshnik), only confirmed that Lacroix is a man who needs to remain on the runways. (See video below.)

CANADA'S NEXT TOP MODEL FEATURES: PHILIPPE AND DAVID BLOND

Talk about Innovative and WILD Fashion by Phillipe and David Blond!

In any case we are so glad to have watched the finale because we got to see some very colorful personalities and fashions from two new Designers who have literally exploded on the world's fashion stage in just one short year.

Since then the dynamic duo consisting of:glamour puss transvestite BLOND , Phillipe and his partner David have dressed some of the world's top celebrities in their outrageous, blinged out and head turning corsets. Rihanna, Britney, Madonna are just some!

The Blond's may not do couture, but your next pop concert? Bring it girl!

Take a look here at at their interview and their fashion show in New York.

THE INNOVATORS:GIVENCHY, JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, VALENTINO- PARIS COUTURE FASHION SHOW VIDEOS

Here's Part 2 of our look at Paris' haute couture fashion shows. (See Part 1 here.)

Givenchy

A taste of Morocco in couture form. Says Canada's Jeanne Beker:

The eclectic collection, designed by Paris couture's youngest creator, Riccardo Tisci, drew on an exotic mix of influences, resulting in black and gleaming red-carpet gowns, shiny harem pants, ornate jackets and dramatic veiled looks.

Jean Paul Gaultier

A whimsical show with a cinematic theme, Gaultier ended his show with projections of screen legends. Perhaps slightly overreaching at times (French-blue crocodile overalls!), he hopped eras and icons as he gave audiences a tour of Hollywood history. Think Daryl Hannah in her Blade Runner replicate role... to Joan Crawford.

Valentino

Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli took the fashion house in a younger direction this season. Lots of short dresses, metalics and an edgier look. Their all-black collection was filled with transparency and delicate texture, and was met with mostly glowing reviews.

(For those of you still misty-eyed over Valentino's 2007 retirement from the fashion house that made him an icon, check out the documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor. It's playing in select Canadian cities now. There was quite the buzz about it at last year's Canada's Toronto Film Festival. For good reason.)

THE GLAMOROUS: CHANEL, CHRISTIAN DIOR PARIS COUTURE FASHION SHOW VIDEOS

This past week's couture shows in Paris dazzled critics and fashion-lovers alike. There was no sign of the recession as models pranced down catwalks in architectural, high-end glamour.

Trend Watch

These trends emerge from the haute couture shows: metallics and sparkle, structured shapes, nipped in waists, sequins, retro glamour, suits (yes, more strong shoulders -- playing with proportion is key) and lingerie-inspired looks, tulle, silks and embellishment. Keep this list in mind should you be nominated for an Oscar this winter. We're looking at you, Penelope Cruz. We know you have two movies coming out....

Here is a look at the 2 top kings of High Haute Couture, whose creations are both uber glamorous and trend setting: CHANEL  and CHRISTIAN DIOR .

Chanel

The folks at Style.com couldn't gush over Lagerfeld's show enough. He's in a class of his own. As per usual.

Lagerfeld's single conceit was a play on graphic proportion--suits and dresses with a longer flyaway panel in the back, all shown with lace tights and stiletto-heeled booties. As the show progressed, he offered up some remarkable looks: a "smoking" redingote with a ruffle-necked blouse; a crinolined dance dress; pretty, light chiffon dresses in nude or midnight blue with ruffled trains. The outstanding look, though, was the one where the panel device was the least evident: a superchic spiral-cut dark blue dress with an asymmetric "tail" lined in red.

Christian Dior

Canada's own Jeanne Beker chimes in (via The Globe and Mail) on the 1950s-presentation-styled show.

The collection was an ode to elegance and sexuality, with many of the nipped-waist silhouettes featuring an air of drama and playfulness. Bold Stephen Jones hats - some with huge, feathery pairs of wings - were great complements to the vibrant theatrical pieces, many which were teamed with retro-looking lingerie.

CANADA STYLE SHOPPING REVIEW- ANTHROPOLOGIE - TORONTO, CANADA

After hearing about it for months we finally had a chance to visit the new Shops at Don Mills, which is housing the much acclaimed and previously only available in the U.S. fashion destination : Anthropologie. This is their first Canadian store and we simply had to see for ourselves what all the talk was about.

anthropologie 2.JPGHere is what we saw: Lots of cotton clothing, mostly loose tops and summer dresses with clever details and embelishments such as ruffles, crochet lace, cotton and linen combinations. Many florals, prints and battic styles. We also saw some cotton pants and shorts which co-ordinated with the tops. Prices ranged from $39 to $99 on average.

Some nice accessories such as purses in suede, cotton floral prints with leather handles and leather and cotton belts. The store also sells books, beauty products, and home accessories.

Overall the place chanelled an exotic and somewhat bohemian vibe of made in India prints and 70's revival. It was also packed and one of the few places were most items were NOT on sale. Anthropologie has over 100 stores in the U.S, and enjoys an almost cult-like following,  they are hoping to re-create the magic for Canadians as well and based on the business the store was doing they just might be on to something. Their new location will open shortly in Toronto's tony Yorkville neighbourhood.

PINK TARTAN: CANADIAN FASHION DESIGNER PROFILE

Canadian style mavens have been watching Pink Tartan for a while now.

Conceived in 2002 by co-founder and head designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran, Pink Tartan's charmingly sophisticated line is a top choice for A-listers like Kim Catrall, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kate Hudson. It all began with a simple design philosophy: "a quality collection that blended sophisticated fashion with feminine details."

Pink Tartan reflects Kimberley's own personal style -- pretty, polished and elegant -- and has named her and her husband (Joseph Mimran, founder of Club Monaco and the man behind Joe Fresh Style) as Canada's best-dressed couple.

Newport-Mimran began her fashion career in retail at the age of 14, before pursuing a merchandising and manufacturing degree at George Brown College. By 1990, she was the senior merchandise manager at Club Monaco, a position she held until her move to senior manager at Caban eight years later. Her dream of starting her own line that catered to busy, on-the-go, fashionable women was realized the year after her daughter (and muse) was born. In 2004, the Canadian designer opened a Pink Tartan showroom in New York. Since then, she's also designed uniforms for the luxury boutique airline Porter Airline and for a handful of hip hotels.

The secret to this designer's success? Dreaming big, she tells Post City Magazines:

"I always had big dreams," she says of where she now is. "You have to have big dreams and big goals." She keeps an open mind to creativity and warns of stifling your own potential. "The moment you are not open to learning is the moment you cannot grow," she says.

Pink Tartan's Fall 2009 did not disappoint fans or critics at Toronto's Fashion Week in May. Inspired by the strength of the '80s and the likes of Grace Jones, androgynous models strut down the catwork in bold shoulders, skinny pants, and pops of pink in a sea of dark sophistication. The rock-'n'-roll edge put the spotlight on boy blazers and masculine-detailed pants, with chubby fur coats and satin cocktail dresses upping the glam factor. Take a look at their show during LG Fashion week in Toronto, Canada.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the fall campaign's shoot with the Material Girl at New York Magazine

And yes, Marc Jacobs tries to justify the bunny ears. And discusses his chicken. And Madonna, the superwoman that she is, laments the high-heel situation as would a mere mortal.

FASHION NEWS: NO RETIREMENT FOR KARL OR BETSEY

Karl Lagerfeld and Betsey Johnson aren't done with fashion yet, folks.

Rumors have been swirling about the impending retirement of two of the world's most beloved fashion icons.

Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel's reigning king, spoke directly with a New York Times reporter to dispel the blog-generated myth that the fashion designer will be stepping down shortly:

I asked Mr. Lagerfeld about the new collection, about staying current, and about those blog reports that he would leave Chanel and be replaced by Alber Elbaz of Lanvin. Mr. Lagerfeld said to forget about it. He was going to die with his boots on. He also mentioned that Alain Wertheimer, whose family owns Chanel, said he would sell the house when the designer leaves. This might not be the case, Mr. Lagerfeld said, but it was a nice thing to be told.

Whew. Chanel lovers everywhere sigh with relief.

Betsey Johnson, on the other hand, started the rumors herself in an interview last month with NYMag.com that September's show would be her last, even naming Eric Sartori as the next head designer for her brand:

"I should be retired. I'm basically screwing up because I'm not retired. I'd like to go in four days a month, something like that."

Fortunately, a rep has since spoken to People Magazine, reassuring fans of the pink-accessorized one that she has no plans of walking away just yet:

The designer tells PEOPLE through her rep that "I will never retire while I've still got my legs and my make-up box." An official comment from the brand states, "With rich history and significant opportunities for future growth, Betsey Johnson wants her brand to live on forever. It is only wise that key management and talent is put in place to secure the continued health of the company for the future. Betsey Johnson will continue to provide creative inspiration and leadership as long as she is with us."

Check out Betsey's Fall 2009 playful ready-to-wear line over at Style.com.

Then drool over Karl Lagerfeld's stunning couture line shown in Paris yesterday.

And be thankful that we don't have to say goodbye just yet.

FASHION NEWS: OBAMA GIRLS BECOMING FASHION ICONS TOO

When Michelle Obama steps out in public, that public takes notice. Her daughters aren't far behind, style-wise. Already having boosted the visibility of J.Crew (see Malia's trench here) and its crewcuts line, Malia and Sasha are being closely watched by style hounds.

Malia, 11, exited Air Force One decked in a J. Crew tan silk taffeta trench  with black satin ballet flats .Her sister, eight, wore a matching Crewcuts crushed twill trench  and a pair of printed navy ballet flats . But, as if one pair of ballet flats each just wasn't enough, the girls also were spotted boarding the plane in Washington with Malia wearing her satin flats while Sasha chose the crackle-metallic flats.

FASHION NEWS: CATE BLANCHETT FRONT ROW AT ARMANI PRIVE

cate-blanchett-armani-oscars.jpg

Cate Blanchett in Armani. Academy Awards.

At the Privé couture show in Paris today, Cate Blanchett sat front row. No stranger to high fashion, Blanchett sat with fellow beauties (but hardly acting competition for the untouchable Oscar-winner) Megan Fox and Adrien Brody's ex, Elsa Pataky. While Fox gushed about a somewhat-secret fashion compaign in the works, Blanchett confirmed her greatness by discussing her role in Liv Ullman's upcoming theatrical redo of "A Streetcar Named Desire." What we wouldn't give to see Cate as Blanche.

Not many women can pull of a bold floral print and strong shoulders. Cate is one of the fashionably gifted. And her long-standing friendship with Armani qualifies her to look amazing in everything.

And as for the show?

Armani's winter 2010 display opened on familiar-but-strong territory with a series of pantsuits, his signature look, embellished with rhinestone-hemmed cuffs and buttons that looked like miniature crystal balls.

Then the Italian designer brought out the big guns, or rather the shiny guns, with bustier dresses covered in scintillating silver or champagne-coloured crystals, sequins and beaded fringe. Models wore beaded headpieces with dangling fringe that perched at a jaunty angle on their identical dark bobbed wigs.

The show - under Armani's couture label Giorgio Armani Prive - had a vaguely flappery air about it. But mostly it just felt like classic Armani - all clean lines and to-die-for tailoring - with an extra shot of sparkle.

CELEBRITY STYLE - GET THE LOOK: "I GOTTA FEELING"

The Black Eyed Peas have done it again, scoring another mega-hit. This time, "I Gotta Feeling," the second single from their fifth studio album (The E.N.D.) is tearing up the charts, debuting at No. 2, directly behind their No. 1 "Boom Boom Pow."

The video has us distracted. Sure, there are half-naked bodies flailing about. But we barely notice, as Fergie's impressive shoes are Canada's Style Blog's obsession of the week.

A self-professed shoe-addict (Fergie confesses she owns more than 500 pairs of shoes!), Mrs. Josh Duhamel has launched her own footwear line (available at Heels.com), bringing budget-friendly high glam to the masses. We can only assume she went a little more luxury for the video.

CELEBRITY NEWS: P DIDDY, ASHTON KUTCHER WHITE PARTY FOR MALARIA

Share photos on twitter with Twitpic

This is a photo published by Demi Moore on her twitter page, a few minutes ago.

P Diddy otherwise known as Sean Combs and Ashton Kutcher , are co- hosting one of Diddy's legendary White Parties in Los Angeles and streaming it live. We saw lots of pretty people, lots of kids also and of course, P Diddy, Ashton, Demi. This party is raising funds in support of ending Malaria . A very worthwhile cause and looks like a GREAT party.

In style news, while it's hard to stand out at an all WHITE party, Demi Moore managed. She looked spectacular in a white strapless, fitted dress, her hair parted in the middle and pulled back into a bun. She accessorized with a white clutch and numerous white bracelets on her right arm and of course a blackberry to tweet from.

Nice to see celebrities in action ( literally) and helping out with important causes!

Here is Ashton :

CANADA STYLE FASHION NEWS: OLYMPICS IN VANCOUVER, CANADA TURN HIGH FASHION

Canadian Olympic Teams are to continue to be outfitted by Hudson Bay Company for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games and while we are sure they are going to be awefully nice ( ughh), we can't mask our outright jealousy of the American teams designer outfits.

Polo Ralph Lauren will be designing the official Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony Parade Outfits for the U.S. Teams for both the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London. Polo Ralph Lauren has also created a collection of village wear apparel and accessories that will be provided to the athletes on these teams.

Now all we need to hear is that, Chanel and Yves St. Laurent are outfitting the French and Prada and Missoni are doing the Italians, to fall into a depression altogether.

The last time Canadian Olympic outfits were hot, was when ROOTS Canada were designing the outfits and the poor boy hat was on the heads of every celebrity all over North America!

We say HBC is a fine Canadian establishment, but it's time to bring out the BIG GUNS, let some of our red HOT Canadian designers create winning designs.

Our dream Olympic outfit designs would be created by these Canadian fashion designers: Pink Tartan for Parade outfits, Wayne Clarke and Greta Constantine for evening wear( if it's not part of the Olympics, tough...it's our dream afterall), Joe Fresh and Roots for casual and sweats. Dubuc for village wear for men and Marie St.Pierre for cool village wear for women.

CELEBRITY NEWS: RETURN OF THE "SUPERMODELS"

christy-turlington-ysl.jpgEverything old is new again! Okay, Okay, they are NOT old, but more mature. Most of the origional supermodels are now in their 40s (and Madonna is famously 50) and they're back on TOP of the fashion-model world (which, frankly, we're loving).

Christy, Linda, Cindy and friends (celebrities like Madonna) are representing major fashion houses and brands. For example:

Christy Turlington is the face for Yves St.Laurent Fall 2009 campaign and Bally.

Linda Evangelista is the face of L'Oreal Paris. The Canadian modelling icon was also recently seen in DSquared2's Spring/Summer 2009 campaign and Prada's Fall/Winter 2008 campaign.

Naomi Campbell walked the runway for Hermes' Spring/Summer 2009 ready-to-wear collection.

Elle Macpherson signed a 3-year spokesperson deal with Revlon in 2008. Elle also has her own lingerie line, Elle Macpherson Intimates, and has a line of skincare (The Body) sold through the British pharmacy chain Boots.

Cindy Crawford, while quote-unquote "retired" from modeling, still dazzles on magazine covers (Allure, April '09) and is the face of her own popular line of skin care, Meaningful Beauty. She also launched a furniture line ("Cindy Crawford Home Collection") and will soon be teaming with JC Penny to expand her home-goods brand.

FASHION NEWS:LOUIS VUITTON'S NEW ADS WITH MADONNA

Madonna in Louis Vuitton's fall ad

You might remember how we wrote about Madonna's spring campaign for Louis Vuitton.

Some of you liked the ads and some of you didn't. Well the ads were a huge success!  Antoine Arnault, LV director of communication gushed "Everything she was wearing in the first campaign was sold within a few months. People came into the store saying, 'I want the Madonna bag, the Madonna shoes."

Needless to say Louis Vuitton is pretty happy. So happy in fact they are doing another campaign with Madonna. And for a change, these airbrushed or rather "solarized" pictures are causing another stir.

See the slide show here.  We think these pictures are great, even if they are airbrushed, the colors are saturated the merchandise is well displayed and they are kind of  fun.

FASHION NEWS: FASHION DESIGNERS HUNT FOR BARGAINS

Here is some Recession news we all can relate to: bargain shopping and rationalizing our purchases. Chiconomics? This recession should be called Guiltanomics!

clothing sale.jpg

Remember this conversation you had with yourself? " I didn't spend all kinds of money on this bag, it was on sale and I needed a new bag, so in fact I SAVED a bundle."   OR " I would definitely exercise more with these new running shoes'.

According to WWD, just like the rest of us, fashion designers such as: Vera Wang, Nicole Miller, Rachel Roy and many others, like shopping for bargains , rationalizing ( it WAS market research I tell you) and some of them even sell clothes on Ebay off to pay for new stuff.

"For example, Rachel Roy used her Jimmy Choo discount to offset the price of two new pairs of shoes; Ling Tan bought a bunch of Banana Republic $17 tank tops online even though she models for the brand, and Amy Chan gladly charged herself $550 -- the cost of making a prototype for the navy topaz tile bag, which will hit Intermix stores exclusively in August.

Others have allowed themselves certain indulgences, such as Vera Wang, who has stocked up on "loads of T-shirts" from labels like Preen. While not her intention, those staples could be chalked up to market research, since as she said, "T-shirts are so much a part of what I do," gesturing toward the silhouettes in her resort collection. "I've been thinking about doing T-shirts."

Nicole Miller's two recent picks include the practical and the fashion statement -- an Acne tunic that she "loves" and a pair of Yves Saint Laurent platforms. Eunice Lee, the designer behind UNIS, a downtown store and sportswear label, shares Miller's approach to summer style. Lee's "one gift" to herself was a pair of $550 Dries Van Noten shoes. Her new $110 Nike running shoes will be used to exercise, just as her new $10 bike blinkers will ease her treks around town.

"Doesn't that always make you feel better although it is completely irrational?" Rose said.

Gemma Kahng has also been busy doing a little wheeling and dealing, unloading her old Azzedine Alaïas and other designer finds on eBay. One sale alone more than covered the cost of her new Christian Dior sunglasses. "I know they are not very unique and it's a big name, but they cover everything," she said, showing how her new shades shield her eyes and most of her forehead. "But I'm not really spending money these days so much. I've actually been selling a lot of my old clothes on eBay. I just sold an Alaïa black corset for $750 and I paid close to $1,000 for it in 1992. I just realized I have a fortune in my storage. I'm not buying -- I'm selling."

Chan made no bones about buying her own bag, which is part of a capsule collection made exclusively for Intermix. "I had to pay for it, of course. I had to charge myself what I paid to make it," she said. "But I gladly purchased it, and now I've got my bag for the summer."
