Victoria Beckham has released a sleek single-take video to promote her Fall/Winter 2009 dress collection.
Eight models, all dressed in her slim-silhouetted sheaths accessorized with red-soled Christian Louboutin heels, perch on wooden swings hung from doorways on a quiet London street as the camera pans back and forth. Victoria makes a cameo towards the end of the video where she swings in and out of frame with her signature dark sunglasses, gray cashmere "Carmontelle" dress and Louboutin heels.
Her collection is available at Bergdorf Goodman.
Beckham certainly has an eye for fashion. And knows how to get the industry buzzing about her line. Check out the video entitled "Swings" below. Is this indicative of a design icon in the making?

This excellent article from the Examiner.com describes how to spot and distinguish fake designer goods. Here are some of the main points:
Explore the construction. Counterfeit goods are mass produced, making their quality of construction much lower than authentic designer counterparts. Inspect seams, both inside and out, for any sign of sloppiness.
Inspect the material. Material quality of designer items should be top-of-the-line. Flimsy material or fake leather indicates forgery.
Examine the details. Designer items often feature logos on all metal pieces, including zippers, latches, and buckles. Check for imprinted logos on all metal details. In addition, flimsy closures denote forgery.
Inspect linings. Designer items are lined with high-quality materials. Thin or poorly constructed lining or construction that shows fraying or poor stitching are indicative of fakes.
Know the logo. Counterfeiters often take liberties with designer logos. Look for careless spelling, incorrect capitalization, or mistakes in a designer's trademark picture.
Read the label. Designer labels are sewn into designer items. Do not buy an item if the label is glued, pinned, or a simple handtag. Also, read the label information to make sure that information, including country of origin, is correct.
Consider the packaging. Designers take pride in the packaging of their products, using tissue paper, authenticity cards, care information, high-quality boxes, and high-end shopping bags. An item wrapped in plastic, or put in a flimsy plastic dust bag, is probably a fake.
Most of all know where you are buying from. If it's from a well known brand name store you are pretty safe, if it's on Canal street in New York, you know it's a fake . Where things get tricky is buying privately or on ebay, this is where all of the above becomes very important knowledge. Finally , the price...chances are if it's too good to be true, it's not the real thing. It's one thing to get a Prada bag on 80% sale and pay $200.00 ( that's what we call a SCORE) and quite another to buy it for $50.00 from a street vendor.
To visit Charleston, South Carolina , one of America's most historic and historically preserved cities is to go back in time. About 200 years, give or take. Charleston, best known as the heart of the confederacy during the A
merican civil war, encompasses a downtown historic district comprised of mansions and courtyards built in the 18th and 19th century. All are carefully preserved and occupied to this day. Driving past them in a horse drawn carriage you half expect a Scarlett or Millie to come out in their petticoats and parasols and offer you some iced tea or lemonade.
It is also, best described by Rhett Butler in "Gone With The Wind " as a city of grace and charm!
In keeping with the overall gentille and old fashioned European feel of the city, the Southern Belles( who no longer sport Scarlett's petticoats) in the summer are wearing printed sundresses, sandals, well groomed hair and makeup. It's rare to see a real local not carefully put together even for a casual weekend stroll.
The styles are conservative, but they somehow suit this "history in a capsule" city where thigh high boots with mini skirt and a studded leather jacket ( yes I'm thinking fall 2009, Rodarte collection) would look as out of place here as a "gator" would in Central Park! Probably would cause just as much panic as well...

Remember when back to school meant getting some new jeans and t-shirts, maybe even some sweats . Well you can blame it on "Clueless", but budding fashionista's are getting their cool threads on as young as 10 years of age. Applique skirts and colorful leggings are a take on what mom will be wearing with textured hose and detailed skirts this season. And since it's all about stand out footwear this fall, stand out sneakers are perfect for both gym class and making a great fashion first impression.

Joeffer Caoc, three-time winner of the Canadian Designer of the Year award, is one of the nation's most beloved fashion designers. A favorite among film and music personalities and fashionistas alike, his classic design elements fused with modern aesthetics keeps his line in-demand and cutting-edge. Flare Magazine even named him "King of the Canadian Fashion Industry."
Caoc began his design career as the protégé of celebrated Canadian designer Lida Baday. He launched his own line in 1995 and has been receiving media accolades and support ever since.
Unexpected, artistic and architectural detailing is Joeffer Caoc's signature. Intricate yet subtle tucking, fluid lines, drapery, pleating, asymmetry, and gathering, combined with meticulous fit and classic tailoring, create truly unique pieces with enduring style. The fit and unconventional detailing of Joeffer Caoc's garments are truly exceptional.
Caoc's much-lauded Fall 2009 line is a tribute to the inspiring women in his life. Subtle hues popped against bold reds and metallic sheens. The perfect day dress, graphic prints and architecture-inspired tailoring defined the key looks in the season's collection. Shown to a packed house at Toronto Fashion Week, words like "love" and "impeccable" were thrown around by fashion critics who couldn't help but fall for his masterful pieces.

Footwear For Fall/Winter:
The biggest International trends for fall and winter footwear are booties and over the knee boots. Save the bootie for the slim pant or pair with same color opaque hose if wearing with a skirt.

Good news for the economy, not only does sex sell, but so do celebrities and record breaking athletes. Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man recently broke his own record for the 100 metre dash at 9.58 seconds. Remarkable! So it's only fair that his Puma shoes, yes the ones he wore when he broke the record are selling out! Bloomberg reports:
''Usain Bolt's record-breaking wins at the track and field world championships in Berlin have boosted sales of his sponsor Puma AG's goods, the company said.
"The products we have created for the world championships are sold out," Chief Executive Officer Jochen Zeitz said in an interview today. They include a special Jamaica collection, his spikes worn in Berlin and a lifestyle-version of the shoes minus the spikes, Zeitz said. He declined to give a sales forecast. '
The article also states that Usain Bolt's media value to Puma in terms of how much they would have had to spend on advertising to get the same amount of exposure is around $358 million dollars!
Wow now that's what we call a good investment!
Renee Zellweger has been making the rounds promoting her new flick, My One and Only. She stopped by Regis and Kelly on Thursday, looking casually and effortlessly polished. One of the stranger fashion phenomenons, the Japanese Hello Kitty fashion and licencing brand turns 35 and design celebrations are under way. The fashion brand featuring the pink kitty has not only survived but is in fact thriving in this economy. After 35 years in business the brand is earning over 5 billion dollars per year on all its products. Starting out as something that appealed to little girls, the fashion brand grew up with it's shoppers.
WWD reports on the phenomenon of THE CAT:
"Hsu said Hello Kitty products rake in worldwide sales of more than $5 billion annually. "A huge percentage of that is in the fashion category," she explained, adding the brand is seeing "tremendous strength" in fine jewelry. The company declined to break down sales by product category.
Over the years, Hello Kitty's image has graced almost every conceivable product, from scented erasers to Fender guitars. She has two theme parks in her native Japan and there is even a Hello Kitty-themed maternity hospital in Taiwan. At Sanrio headquarters in Tokyo, visitors sip Hello Kitty's own brand of green tea out of Hello Kitty cups as they sit in Hello Kitty chairs.
In recent years, Hello Kitty's reach has extended beyond young girls to stylish women, who shop the brand both for themselves and their daughters. Hello Kitty's fashion quotient has increased through a bevy of collaborations with firms such as Christian Dior, Heatherette, Anna Sui and A Bathing Ape. Her celebrity following includes Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus."
Kimora Lee Simmons will be just one of the designers lending her design expertise for the birthday celebrations, in this case to a themed iPhone cover. Others include a one-of-a-kind necklace by Swarovski, special-edition sneakers by Asics and designs by Judith Leiber, just to name a few.
Izzy Camilleri, one of Canada's top designers and leading fashion innovators, began designing her first collection immediately after graduating from fashion design school in 1984. Her line quickly create buzz in fashion circles, as it resonated with women nationwide.
After finding success with her own collection, Camilleri shifted gears and pursued a successful custom-design career in the world of film and television, designing for screen goddesses like Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Reese Witherspoon.
In the fall of 2000, Camilleri launched IZZY CAMILLERI, reestablishing herself as a top designer, using couture techniques on leather, suede and rich textiles. Her provocative, sophisticated designs are available across North America.
In 2006, a silver fox fur coat created by Camilleri was featured in the fashion-obsessed film The Devil Wears Prada. Her Meryl Streep-donned design was the only Canadian piece in the film.
Camilleri's career took an innovative turn in 2008 when she put entered into the world of adaptable fashion. Her Iz Collection of Adaptable Clothing addresses the often-overlooked fashion needs of a seated clientele. Each piece is cut to follow the line of the body, with fabric bulk eliminated and strategic zipper placement accomodating specific needs. Her affordable made-to-order line garnered praise from both the design industry and women everywhere.
With an ever-evolving design career, Izzy Camilleri has Canadian fashion devotees eagerly waiting to see what she'll do next.

Wow, does this ever sound like our new millenium version of shopping Woodstock or what?
Wish we could be there, but it's the start of Toronto International Film Festival and let's face it we would rather have a drink with, than be trampled in shopping frenzy with Maria, Diddy and company!
This is a lighthearted look at fashion. We told you here that many of the top designers are reintroducing the lowly backpack as a fashion item for men. Well we were doing some street fashion observing in Montreal, Canada . A city many call the fashion hub of Canada, and we did indeed spy quite a few of the handy carryall's.
We doubt that these were big priced designer ones.Which of course begets the question. Did the designers get their inspiration from street fashions?
We also saw a very sexy wedding dress. Not something one sees every day, Wonder if this wedding dress style will catch on as well. Hmm, maybe it was a fashion shoot?

And finally ( yes we could not resist), this fellow really gives a whole new angle to metalics this season. Kids do not replicate at home..

On this hot day in Old Montreal, the lemonade was cold and the style was easy. It was all shorts, t-shirts, summer dresses and sandals, sandals, sandals and of course a wedding, Montreal style!

"Victoria's Secret Celebrates the 10 Year Anniversary of the Body By Victoria" Collection".

The Victoria's Secret Angels will be walking the catwalk in a holiday-themed lingerie show this November on CBS.
The models also introduced the new and improved Body by Victoria Collection, The bra's reinvention celebrates the 10th anniversary of Body by Victoria.
One of the hottest emerging trends right now is leather. Jackets, skirts, pants ( yes, it's true) and the newest item: the leather dress. Now with both Angelina Jolie at the Inglorious Basterds premiere and Jennifer Aniston ( on Sept.cover of Elle) wearing almost identical leather dresses , you can be sure this will be the BIG item for fall/winter! Considering that magazine shoots are scheduled months in advance, who here thinks Angelina wanted to steal Jen's thunder by wearing the hot number just as the mag was hitting the shelves?
Our gorgeous lookalike dress is by Italian designer Ermano Scervino and is currently on sale for $612.00 U.S at Yoox. For a more affordable version , try BEBE's leatherette rocker dress $139.00. It's not leather but still captures the "mood".

Montreal-based menswear designer Philippe Dubuc has been a Canadian fashion powerhouse since the launch of his first collection in 1993. Internationally acclaimed and known for his impeccably tailored modern suits, Dubuc is the first Canadian to show his menswear collections at Paris Fashion Week, and counts David Bowie among his clientele.
Dubuc studied at College Marie-Victorin before working his way up in the fashion industry throughout the '80s and '90s in various roles: designer, patternmaker and production manager. He launched his label D.U.B.U.C. Mode de Vie (Design Us Beautiful Urban Clothes) in 1993, and has been lauded for his metropolitan trendsetting designs ever since.
Dubuc is a five-time recipient of the Matinee Fashion Foundation grant to leading Canadian designers, won the Canadian Wool Bureau's Innovator prize in 1996, and has been twice named Canadian Designer of the Year at the Griffe d'Or Fashion Awards.

Dubuc's Fall 2009 collection, a "comeback" showing at Montreal Fashion Week following a 3-year Fashion Week hiatus and a design stint with the European line Sarah Pacini, was met with critical acclaim. His clothing exhibited rich juxtaposition: the hard and the soft, the raw and the refined. Even with '50s-inspired tailoring, his signature urban sensibility was hard to miss:
"I am in constant evolution with modernism and urban contrasts."
All eyes will remain on this Canadian menswear visionary as he continues to spotlight Quebecois creativity and excellence with his collections. His designs are available nationwide.
Last time we wrote about Lady Gaga, she was dressed as Kermit The Frog. Now she appears on Tokyo TV wearing elephant hair hat. We think it's very funny, NOT a look to be copied in real life, but she definitely gets an A for originality! Also her piano, bluesy rendition of poker face is very cool:
Talk about a smart way to beat the recession. Mega retailers like Target and H&M have made paring up with high fashion designers the cat's miau of affordable fashion.
In the latest collaboration, the fashion house of Rodarte will be premiering their collection for Target in December 20,2009 . The collection will consist of 55 distinct pieces. Everything from party dresses and jackets to knee highs. And with prices ranging from $9.99 to $79.99, mix and match will be both fun and affordable.
Rodarte was founded in 2005 by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. Both sisters have a background in art and it shows in their work, which has a style all it's own. The edgy, architectural designs known for amazing detailing, layers and use of color have become red carpet celeb darlings seen on Kirsten Dunst ,Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman. Rodarte clothing after just a few short years of existence, are being sold by the top luxury retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and in Canada, by Holt Renfrew and Hugo Nicholson. Quite an accomplishment, as those fashion buyers are very discerning.
See the photos and video for Rodarte fall 2009 here.
We wonder if they will be selling the thigh high boots as well? If so, we are first in line!
Nicole Ritchie says that House of Harlow designs were inspired by her own vintage pieces and reflects her personal style of eclectic bohemian fashion.
The HOT line is a celeb favorite. Recently Madonna wore a vintage looking locket for the cover of her new "Celebration" cd. You can shop the line at Pink Mascara in fashion, but be prepared to get on a waiting list. The popular styles sell out super fast.
It was with a bit of a ho-hum that we first received the news of Kimora Lee Simmons' "Baby Phat" being one of the latest additions to The Brands Club online shopping mall.
After all, with hundreds of designers at Pink Mascara, CoutureCandy, Hipchick, FashionChateau and Beyonce's Dereon, the online mall is already brimming with trendy, urban, celeb favorite ladies clothing. So we wondered how this line would stand up.
After doing some shopping we were pleasantly surprised to find some very fashion worthy apparel for women and girls at Baby Phat. The fashion is "glammed up" hip hop/urban style and is a mix of trendy and wearable. We particularly liked the super cute and trendy little girl clothes. The prices were highly affordable. The clothes are designed and created under close supervision by Kimora Lee Simmons , former model and glamazon ex wife of hip hop founder Russel Simmons ( who incidentally has his own hip hop clothing line called Phat Farm, in men's clothes) .
The online store features clothing for women, girls, plus sizes as well as shoes, lingerie and accessories. In their own words "Baby Phat is a lifestyle for the glamorous woman who is everything hip-hop and everything fashion."
Here were some of our picks for fall and into winter fashions:
BP Milan Cat High - $60.00. Will look great with leggings and/or skinny jeans.
Sarah Hobo bag $79.00. We liked this one because it picks up on two hot fall trends: the ruffle and the zipper edging. Gives a quick fashion update without paying the big bucks!

From Fall 2009 Ad campaign - Women. Fringe Dress - $59.00. The dress picks up on the whole fringe trend and will wear across seasons. It's polyester/spandex fabric mix also makes it a good travel dress as it will be more wrinkle resistant.

From Fall 2009 Ad campaign - Girls. What can we say, the picture says it all - SO cute! Skirt and ruffled shirt in first picture are $36.00 and $38.00 respectively. We love little girl clothes that look like mommy's but are all their own! The co-ordinated color pieces will make it easy to create a few different 'looks" for your little fashion diva.
Most pieces at 'Baby Phat' are under $70.00, even for new merchadise. Different specials are on-going, at the time of review there was a sale going on where the second item purchased was 40% off when the first was purchased at regular price. There are a number of pretty summer clothing and accessories still on sale. As well if you are a member of The Brands Club, you get an additional 3% off your total purchase price in cashback rebates. You have to be a member to shop, join here for free.

Provocative images captured by photographer Ellen Von Unwerth have been created for the photo book in honour of the Italian fashion shoe designer's 50th Anniversary.
Cesare Casadei ,son of the founders, explained the use of the sexy pictures to Style.com :
"I wanted to highlight the strength of women through their sensuality."
And maybe even sell some shoes? Oh yes, in case any of you were so inclined, those are available by special order at Casadei boutiques.
Whilst there are intrepid men out there who have succumbed to the beckoning of a man purse or murse, most either stuff all their 'stuff" into their pockets or briefcases or have learned to live without. Well time to rejoice, as designers have woken up to the fact that men have lots of things to put into bags and need a carry all, just as women do. To that end, WWD reports that almost all major Bag designers such as Burberry,Prada, Gucci ,Dsquared are making mens bags fashionable again. The new fashion darlings come in form of backpacks and weekend bags ( cooler version of the gym and/or carry all bag).
"For spring, designers are reintroducing backpacks and updating the weekender, both key components of a dynamic lifestyle. The backpacks fall into two camps: a high-tech, outdoor sport version that tends toward colorful nylon, or a bohemian, artisanal version in worn cotton canvas or leather. The new weekender appears in a variety of statement colors and leather treatments such as perforation, embossing and texturized effects."

We recently caught up with The F-List's Leesa Butler at "The Sartorialist" party .
We thought it was very timely that the Canadian prima Fashionista was wearing a gorgeous Evan Biddell number as we had just finished doing a profile on this emerging Canadian fashion designer . Leesa's electric-blue booties not only provided that perfect pop of color against the grey, but also drew attention to her legs ( clever girl) and made the shorter one of us exclaim in mid sentence " Wow you are so tall and slim"!

Founder Julia Grieve; Creative Director Peter Friesen
Salvaging thousands of used pieces every year, the eco-conscious, one-of-a-kind Canadian fashion brand has earned an international following. Celebs like Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson can't get enough of the reworked pieces. And with stores in Toronto and Montreal, chains like Holt Renfrew and Urban Outfitters carrying the line, plus a recent expansion into the worldwide wholesale market, enthusiasm for Preloved is growing.
Preloved creates one of a kind clothing from reclaimed vintage fabrics. Our passion is design and our philosophy is sustainability. Attention to fit, comfort and style has been our driving force.
Founded by former model Julia Grieve, Preloved is a leader in fashion eco-design. Grieve conceived the label after recutting vintage pieces for herself in the early nineties as a way to save money.
It was always something I did (rework vintage). I loved vintage clothing, and loved the fact [that] I was getting a one of a kind piece of clothing. The issue with vintage is you can end up looking like your grandma if you don't modify it. People would ask me where I got my clothes, and I thought... someone might actually buy these clothes. I was modeling and traveling around the world and got home sick so I decided to go back home and open a shop... preloved opened on May 1st 1995. [source]
Creative Director Peter Friesen immediately came on board as a co-op fashion student from Ryerson's Fashion Design program. He served as head designer, with Preloved matching his unique design philosophy, creating summer dresses out of bed sheets and signature sweaters out of discarded wool garments. It wasn't long before Preloved was a cult fashion hit, with shoppers falling in love with the modern designs assembled from pieces of vintage clothing.
Grieve is no stranger to Canada's fashion scene. She's been a Fashion Editor at Impact Magazine, co-host of Global Television's Diva on the Dime, a frequent guest on home and fashion programming across the country, and served as a mentor on season two of Project Runway Canada.

Preloved recently launched a children's line, me*me, inspired by Grieve's three young children. With the brand always expanding, be on the lookout for their home collection, accessories line, and ever-growing apparel lines.
If you live in Canada, Northern U.S.A or happen to be a Hollywood celebrity, you are probably familiar with the Muskoka region, apx. 2 hours North of Toronto. If not, we highly recommend a visit, for the hundreds of clean lakes, majestic forests and incredible granite rocks jutting straight out of mountain tops. This is Ontario, Canada's cottage country and a not to be missed summer experience.
We happened to be visiting the region this past weekend and could not help but stop and check out one of our favorite home, garden, funky clothing boutiques in Port Carling,Ontario called 'Discover Artifacts Muskoka'. Owned by the charismatic Christopher Caterer ( who also just happens to be an interior designer) the store is chock full of great home accents such as lamps, hand crafted pillows, one of a kind lamp shades, picture frames, quilts and all sorts of unique gifts. The store also sells some cottage style antique pieces and furniture.
In the back on the two level house converted to store, you will find stylish, funky clothing mostly from L.A. designers and Michael Kors. Having found cashmere sweaters, beaded tank tops, studded sandals and purses in the past, this little treasure trove comes recommended.
Prices range from $29.00 for 'shell" dishes, $59.00 for frames, $295.00 for hand beaded fringed suede pillows to $125.00 for hand sawn, birch bark lamp shades. Clothing ranged from $100.00 to $500.00 and furniture was individually priced from $500.00 to over $3500.00 for bigger pieces. Considering most pieces in the store are unique and/or custom, we thought the prices were in line with the quality of the products.

It seems that this is the year of the Canadian Model: Daria Werbovy , Coco Rocha, Linda and now " little" Jessica Stam. Jessica who hails from Kincardine, Ontario grew up on a farm with her 6 brothers and is now rocking the International fashion world.
Not only is she collaborating on a new fashion line with David Neville of Rag and Bone, she is also the new face of Nina Ricci's perfume Ricci Ricci and models in the new 2009 campaign for the designer. Above photo from that campaign.
So once again, we prove over and over again that.... Canada's has the best looking models!
